Education Ministry Investigates High School Violence

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is said to be investigating an incident involving students at the Charlemont High School.

Based on reports, a student was beaten by others leaving her with several injuries. The parent of the child has spoken out on the matter saying the Principal Gary Gayle has failed to make contact. She says her child was comatose for three days due to her injuries.

The video which is now circulating on social media shows several students in a scuffle administering blows to each other. It shows two students on the ground while an individual tries to separate them and another using their foot to kick one of the students in her bag. They are later separated while one girl is dragged away by her hair.

The footage which is 54 seconds long also shows a taxi passing by but no one exits the vehicle to assist.

The parent of the child who was injured says her daughter returned to the school where she later fell unconscious. She believes that the incident is linked to envy.

Meanwhile, the education ministry says it has received the video and has launched an investigation. The Principal, Gary Gayle, is also required to submit a report.

CVM LIVE made several calls to Charlemont  High School to peak with the Principal but was told that he is in a meeting.

The Education Ministry Region 6 Director  says the report is expected to be received by Tuesday.
