In the face of challenges pervading the education sector, Education Minister Fayval Williams has highlighted a message of optimism. At present, the country boasts a teacher workforce exceeding 24,000 individuals. Minister Williams affirms that, despite these resignations, the supply of teachers continues to surpass the demand.
Over the course of fewer than twelve days, a total of 427 additional teachers have tendered their resignations, bringing the cumulative count of resignations to eight hundred and twenty-seven. Although this might trigger concern, the present figure signifies a notable 44 percent reduction compared to the same period last year, which recorded 1538 teachers resigning. This context underscores that, while the situation remains challenging, it is evolving in a more manageable direction.
Minister Williams explained that strategies were proactively distributed to schools in advance to assist in their recruitment endeavors. Furthermore, Minister Williams points to the launch of the Jobs Portal tailored to the education sector. This user-friendly platform enables teachers to explore comprehensive school profiles and peruse available positions with ease. With the countdown to school reopening underway, this comprehensive approach aims to address immediate concerns while setting a forward-looking trajectory for the education sector.
