The election 2020 campaign season is now in full gear. This means supporters out in their colours, while the dubs and comedy skits are traded on social media. While this is entertaining, there is a percentage of the population that relies on party manifestos to inform their vote.
With two weeks to go to the polls, only one political party has released its manifesto so far. There is growing concern from the public about the plans that the two major political parties have for the country.
When the dubs die down and all the pomp and circumstance fades from the early stages of the campaign season, there are those who are waiting on the substance…the manifestos.
The governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) had declared that it is campaigning on the achievements of the last five years.
The campaign spokesperson for the JLP, Kamina Johnson Smith, during a news conference on Thursday, listed a few of the accomplishments.
Meanwhile, the Peoples National Party (PNP) launched a digital manifesto on Wednesday.
CVM LIVE visited the website and observed that it was user friendly. Members of the public can select from a wide range of issues which is then filtered based on demographic information inputted by the user.
But when asked about the status of the JLP’s manifesto, Johnson Smith, seemingly switched position, saying the manifesto is being finalized.
