Electronic Stores Record Increase In Sale Of Smart Devices

Electronic stores are reporting an increase in the sale of tablets and computers in the past couple of weeks, with at least one store completely out of stock.

As students prepare for back to school online, there is an overwhelming demand for the smart devices.

CVM LIVE visited a few stores in Ocho Rios, St. Ann yesterday.

Several electronic stores were offering deals on smart phones, tablets and computers for back to school.

Vinesh of Native Gift Store in Ocho Rios, St. Ann says there has been an increase in inquires for smart devices mainly from parents. The same sentiment was given by one Store Clerk at Mandeville Quicksale also in the parish says the tablets have already sold out.

Meanwhile, at the Jewelry Junction, they offer consultancy to guide parents for the tablet selection.

The Sales Rep says the Samsung tablets are the best sellers. She says while some of the tablets have limited memory, it does have an external sd card.

But as for this parent , she explains that she’s unable to find an tablet for her child with the necessary specification.

The Minister of Education, Fayval Williams has announced a twenty thousand tablet voucher for some thirty-six thousand students who are not on the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).

However, the devices must have certain specifications including screen size, memory and storage size to prevent parents from purchasing inferior devices.

And for others, they explain that they’re relying on community centres and school labs to help students during this time.
