Entertainment Industry Under Lockdown

Entertainment events are now prohibited as part of the Government’s effort to manage the spread of the COVID-19, as hospitals are at capacity and the death toll is climbing. Prime Minister Andrew Holness in June announced a partial reopening of the entertainment sector, a move that was criticized by many.

Night clubs and amusement parks are to be closed, while gyms, restaurants, zoos, and parks are to operate at 50% capacity, the Prime Minister says the restrictions will be imposed.

Minister of Local Government, Desmond Mckenzie, says the compliance over the independence weekend averaged 59%.
Last year between august one to August 10, Jamaica recorded 198 new cases of the virus causing a post-independence spike. And from August 1 to August 10, this year, a total of 2, 219 cases were recorded, which signals that the post-independence threat this year may be more devastating.
