With the resumption of face-to-face learning after shifting online in 2020, one stakeholder in the education sector is concerned about the preparation time for students sitting the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams.
Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) representative and Principal of Belmont Academy, Rayon Simpson says emotions were mixed as schools re-opened fully for the first time this week. He shares that given various aspects of the syllabus, which are quite time-consuming, students are at a disadvantage having not been in the physical classroom for two years. He is demanding some level of flexibility from the examination body.
Simpson notes there was a shortage of desks and chairs with all the cohorts present. He however explains the students’ biggest challenge was transportation. The CSEC examinations which are set for May 2, have sparked concern among principals regarding preparation time. Most explaining several aspects of the syllabus requires face-to-face interaction.
