Father Accidentally Shoots Son Dead

Shock waves were felt throughout the nation after news of the misfortune befell a St Catherine family. The incident left a teenager dead and a family in grief after the teen’s father fatally shot him at their home.

The teen’s father told police he mistook his son for an intruder before he fired three rounds hitting him. The life of 15-year-old Raheem Shaw was snuffed out early Wednesday morning, by his own father, who allegedly mistook him for an intruder.

CVM LIVE understands that the boy’s mother was awakened by sounds of the front gate and the grill of their Portmore, St. Catherine home being opened, and notified the father. Upon arming himself with his licensed Beretta 9mm pistol, the father reportedly walked in the living room, where he heard the front door being opened, and fired three rounds through the door.

His son suffering from bullet wounds was on the other side.  Raheem was rushed to the Spanish Town hospital, where he was pronounced dead. After expressing his condolences to the now torn family, former Deputy Chairman of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) Dennis Meadows, says there is a need for licensed firearm holders to undergo constant training, to avoid incidents like this.

As the court of public opinion attempts to decipher the father’s reasoning, Meadows pins the blame on the country’s high crime rate and citizens’ related fear. More details in the report:
