The Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ, is reporting that the final counting of ballots has been completed for 87 electoral divisions in the February 26 Local Government Election. This represents the counting completed up to last night, February 27.
There are two phases to the counting process – the preliminary count and the final count. At the preliminary count, the Presiding Officer counts the ballots cast at his/her polling station, whereas, at the final count, the Returning Officer counts all the ballots in the consituency which he/she manages.
