Public sector workers will soon be able to access paternity leave and longer maternity leave, as the government embarks on restructuring compensation under the Ministry of Finance. Minister of Finance Dr. Nigel Clarke made the announcement at a Press Conference on Jamaica to now offer paternity leave.
The Minister says the government will be making new adjustments to the staff orders of 2004 which will see an increase in maternity leave and will for the first time accommodate fathers. The adjustment will also grant family leave for adoptive parents of new-borns. He notes the government is working assiduously to modernize the public sector. This while stating members of the sector should see changes in short order. For members of the sector who are low-income earners, the Minister says the government will provide the necessary support ahead of the new school term in September. Watch the full report for details:
