Jamalco’s reconstruction process is on track – During the Sitting of the House of Parliament on Tuesday, February 1, Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke responded to questions posed on the matter of production at the Jamalco Bauxite Plant that went up in flames IN 2021. The Finance Minister reported that production at Jamalco should resume by June this year.
According to the Minister, the reconstruction project is on track; Jamalco is expected to be operating at a 100 percent production rate and full completion of restoration by 2024. He highlights claims regarding the company’s insurance, saying a claim has been made and will be settled in full over time. Minister Clarke notes that as of January 12, 2022, total insurance proceeds of 68 million US dollars are being used for clean-up and restoration activities.
