Among the sea of opinions regarding the increased salary for politicians, it has been said key sectors, primarily the teachers have been neglected. The Jamaica Teacher’s Association, JTA, has said on numerous occasions that anomalies and discrepancies have stained the compensation overhaul for teachers. The Finance Minister today asserts the Union appears to be more interested in speaking to the media versus the relevant authorities. President of the JTA La Sonja Harrison insists the government has not been forthcoming in resolving the numerous compensation anomalies plaguing the teachers.
Among the concerns, she says some teachers are yet to receive retroactive monies, while others were given an incorrect sum. The absorption of allowances into salary, she adds, has not allowed the members to appreciate their supposed salary increase. The Finance Minister has responded, watch the report:
