Emergency responders were called to another market fire, this time in Spanish Town, St Catherine early Wednesday morning. The inferno crippled businesses, as several stalls were gutted, sending investments up in smoke. Sections of Cumberland Avenue in Spanish Town, St Catherine are now destroyed following a fire, resulting in several stalls, laden with goods being engulfed by flame. Public Relations officer at the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Emilio Ebanks, informed our news team, they received a call at 2:49 a.m alerting them to the fire. He adds, one unit from the Spanish Town and Waterford Fire Station responded immediately
And was able to get the blaze under control. President of the St Catherine Chamber of Commerce, Dennis Robotham, who was on the scene, described it as horrendous. He explains vendors have occupied the space for years, and depend on it for their livelihood. However, the cause of the market district fire is still unknown. Ebanks, says investigations are ongoing into the extent of its impact on those who use the space. Watch the report:
