Investigations continue into the cause of Saturday night’s massive fire, which destroyed sections of the Facey Commodity Company Limited in Newport West Kingston. The damage is so far estimated to be over 1 billion dollars.
It has also brought into question, the possibility of a loss of jobs for hundreds, however, Seprod CEO Richard Pandohie assures that there will be no loss of jobs. He says that all one hundred and fifty (150) employees will be needed to recover from the setback the fire caused. Spectators and workers lined the sidewalk at Marcus Garvey Drive on Saturday night as the fire of unknown origin gutted the merchandise division of Facey Commodity Limited. Reports are that the fire began sometime after 8 pm. Security forces and the fire department arrived shortly after, where they battled for hours to control the raging inferno. Explosions were heard inside the building as the conflagration grew larger.
Seprod CEO Richard Pandohie, stood, gazing at the destruction. He says, his main focus is how to maintain operations after such a major loss.
Firefighters worked into the night to get the blaze under control. When our news team returned on Sunday afternoon the building still smoldered, with thick, dark smoke rising from the premises, blanketing the street.
