Fisherfolk & Farmers to Benefit from Insurance Plan

Come March 1, 2021 fisherfolk and farmers will be able to access a Group Health and Life Insurance Plan, the Sagicor Agri Care Plan; this is an initiative that received commendation on Tuesday, February 9 in the House of Representatives.

The group health and life insurance plan that seeks to safeguard fisherfolk and farmers against any possible eventuality is considered a historic move in Jamaica.

The  Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Floyd Green sought to highlight aspects of the plan. whereas insurance company, Sagicor will facilitate premium installments of four equal quarterly payments or twice per year.

Minister Green says the programme will only benefit registered fishers and farmers. While welcoming the initiative, the Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture and Fisheries, inquired about a crop insurance scheme
