The Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) has issued a stern advisory, cautioning licensed firearm holders against participating in any gun salutes during this festive season. According to the FLA, such actions are deemed illegal under the recently enacted Firearm (Prohibition, Restriction, and Regulation) Act of 2022.
Licensed firearm holders are reminded that, as per the new legislation, discharging firearms in any location is strictly prohibited, except in situations of lawful self-defense, protection of property, defense of another person, or as expressly permitted by law. Violating this regulation by engaging in gun salutes constitutes an offense, and those found guilty could face imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to three million dollars. Furthermore, participating in such activities may result in the revocation of the firearm license. The FLA emphasizes the importance of adhering to these regulations to ensure public safety and the responsible use of licensed firearms during New Year’s Eve celebrations.
