Speaking recently at a Floral Tribute for the late former Prime Minister Michael Manley, Culture Minister Olivia Babsy Grange says it is a time to reflect on the vision once held by Michael Manley that Jamaica become a republic.
Minister Grange notes Manley was a pioneer not only in Jamaica but in the region. She also highlighted Manley’s attitude towards the poor. The inception of labour day is also credited to Michael Manley and was envisioned as a day set apart nationally for all citizens to partake in clean-up initiatives.
A tradition Minister Grange notes have been of significant social relevance for decades. She urged all Jamaicans to consider the commitment to nationhood of former Prime Ministers.
