Fool’s gold. The community of Chester Castle in Hanover came alive amid rumors of gold buried in the backyard of Royston Coal, who inherited the land from his great-grandparents.  It all began when he started construction works on the land, and a tractor uncovered what he describes as an unusual substance buried beneath several feet of dirt.

Mere moments later, he says the community descended on his property, flocking to see the mineral. He says he is not denying the residents access to his property, as he notes their excitement and hopefulness of possible riches. But he says he is prepared to lose if it is indeed gold.

Luckily for him, the mineral was later confirmed by the authorities to be pyrite, an iron sulphide also known as fool’s gold. A mineral packing far less price than the anticipated gold. Meanwhile, Councillor Caretaker for the Chester Castle Division, Winter Mcintosh says the residents were merely shocked to see a new substance in the community.
