Two former ministers are accused of granting criminals gun licenses – A Special Report of Investigation conducted into the operations of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) and its board from 2012 to 2018 is causing another stir about the embattled entity. The report dated January 2020 was submitted to the parliament recently and subsequently published this week. Among the damning findings, two former security ministers granted firearm licenses to applicants of questionable character.
It also found that former Deputy Chairman at the FLA, Dennis Meadows approved a gun license for a relative who had a criminal record overseas. The commission says Meadows at no point declared a conflict of interest nor did he recuse himself from the proceedings regarding his relative, an offence tantamount to misconduct in a public office.
