Former PNP Gives Insight On PNP Presidential Election

As the People’s National Party (PNP) Presidential Election draws nigh, both candidates have been making their pitch to Delegates. While support for Mark Golding continues to rise, Lisa Hanna received a major endorsement yesterday from Member of Parliament for East Kingston and Port Royal, Phillip Paulwell.

But according to a Former Member of Parliament of the Party, Lloyd B Smith, Golding appears to be in the lead.

“All is not well for Ms. Hanna in terms of her relationship with her own constituents and also one suspects with wider sections of the party supporters so in that context I would want to think that Mr. Golding starts out with a plus in that so far he has no major baggage that no one knows of and one suspects that his intention is a genuine one where he’s seeking to unite the party,”

However, so far both campaign teams have  remained civil but comments from a Golding supporter recently got tongues wagging.

“The party can’t run pah water? Is a funny thing I see in politics and on election day almost everyone wah money to vote but when you have someone weh have money ina the party it comin like we wah cuss them,” Dayton Campbell commented.

Golding has since sought to clarify this statement, saying that the Party needs resources to function effectively.

Smith is of the opinion that the Party may need external help.

“Bring in some professional counsellors and mediators, who can come into the internal sanctum of the party to help… le’s not fool ourselves there is a great deal of animosity in the party at the moment,” he says.

In addition he adds that, ” here is a political party that is 82 years old and yet none of the Vice Presidents saw it fit to run for the Office of President.”
