Until recently, no charges were on the books specific to the stockpiling of guns and ammunition or trafficking in such weaponry in Jamaica. However, with the amended Firearms Act of 2022, sources admit four persons linked to a criminal syndicate involved in several robberies in Manchester have been slapped with new charges and related hefty sentences. The Police Commissioner confirmed the update Tuesday on a tour of several police stations in the parish.
Commissioner Anderson says there is also a wider ongoing investigation. He also condemned any acts of criminality on the part of any of his members as an act of betrayal. Prior to the enforcement of the new law, the government embarked on an awareness and sensitization campaign in addition to introducing another gun amnesty.
