Free Movement for Caricom Nationals By 2024

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamina-Johnson in a Post Cabinet Briefing this morning (July 12) outlined the legal framework governing the upcoming 2024 free movement for Caricom nationals for work or leisure. The decision to rework the treaty and other legal implications was announced in Trinidad and Tobago by the Caricom chair and Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit at the 45th meeting of Conference of the Heads of Government Caricom heads of Government have decided on free movement for all Caricom nationals by March 31 next year.

Updating the country on the progress of the agreement of Conference which seeks to work towards the free movement between all Caricom nationals, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamina Johnson-Smith on Wednesday says the discussions and agreements thus far, in comparison to 2016 and before, are massive. Despite Belize remaining adamant that Jamaicans will have to acquire a visa to enter the country, Smith believes that the countries gaining access to each other is the most fundamental way to experience the benefits of being part of Caricom.
