Residents of violence-prone east Kingston enjoyed friendly games of football and netball on Monday, with the aim of promoting peace and unity among the communities that have been divided in conflict for several years.
The police and Member of Parliament Phillip Paulwell were also part of the peace-building exercise. The residents of McIntyre Villa, otherwise called Dunkirk and other neighboring communities in east Kingston, were out on Easter Monday, participating in netball and football games, as part of efforts to reunite warring factions in the area.
Member of parliament for the Kingston East Constituency Phillip Paulwell says he is hopeful that the event will foster greater peace and encourage further development of the communities. Head of the Kingston Eastern Police Division, Superintendent Tomilee Chambers says there has been an increased police presence in the division following a recent gun attack that left 12 people nursing injuries in the Franklyn Town community.
