The nation needs calm, reassuring and credible leadership, that’s according to Opposition Leader Mark Golding who was speaking at a People’s National Party (PNP) press conference earlier. He says instead, Prime Minister Holness has started the year by indulging in emotional manipulation of the public at a national day of prayer.
Golding adds that violent crime continues to stalk the land, with 37 Jamaicans murdered in the first week of 2022. Golding says the opposition has been advocating for a balanced approach to bring the situation of crime under control.
The US Department of State on Monday advised its citizens against travel to Jamaica due to COVID-19 and crime related conditions. Stating that, local police lack the resources to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents.
Opposition on National Security, senator peter bunting says this is disturbing and disappointing. Golding adds that the fourth wave is another example of disrespect and mismanagement. The opposition is further urging the government to respond sufficiently to the fourth wave that is threatening to overwhelm the health system.
