Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding is posing the question of “how did we get here?” to the Government, in light of hospitals being overwhelmed amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.
In an address to the nation, Golding highlights the alarming rate at which people are dying while renewing the call for a summit to be convened to identify workable responses to the current health crisis. According to the Opposition leader, Jamaica needs effective leadership. Golding is chiding the Andrew Holness-led administration over what he terms, failure to adequately plan ahead of the COVID-19 crisis Jamaica is experiencing.
The People’s National Party, (PNP) leader raised concerns about the recent oxygen shortage which rocked the health sector, challenging Prime Minister Andrew Holness about his claims in July in parliament that plans as it relates to oxygen were in place. He also noted that the ease up on restrictions in July should have been an easy indicator that substantial access to oxygen would be needed in the event of a spike.
The PNP is also recommending that each parish, be equipped with a dedicated health facility to provide treatment for healthcare workers if they contract the virus.
