Commuters in the corporate area may soon have to pay more to travel, as the government proposes an increase for the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).
The issue was raised during the standing finance committee Wednesday where the transport minister recalled that the last fare increase was in 2011. Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Mikael Phillips says he condemns the move, suggesting that the government is treating public transport similar to a hustle. While questioning the government’s plans for the loss-making entity JUTC he identified the over 2 billion dollars spent on spare parts as alarming. Watch the report:
