Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Floyd Green has signaled the Government’s intent to facilitate the cultivation and processing of ‘Magical Mushroom’ in Jamaica.
Research has shown that Psilocybin also knowns as ‘Magical Mushroom’, has the potential to treat a range of mental and behavioral disorders.
The use of Psychedelics, in particular Psilocybin Mushrooms are used in treating depression and a variety of mental disorders.
It is being referred to as a new frontier in psychiatry.
Minister Green sees this as having the potential to not only transform the wellness sector but also the agricultural sector.
He adds that the growth of the Pschedlics industry in Jamaica will provide wide-ranging opportunities.
A two-day inaugural regional summit was staged recently in Montego Bay, St. James to introduce the Psychedelics market.
The Agriculture Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines was also present.
