Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke is appealing to public-sector employees for patience and calm regarding the compensation review. Since the announcement of the government’s plan to reform the public sector compensation, some persons have not welcomed the move, as they fear a decrease in net pay. However, the Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke is reassuring the workers, that the reforming of the sector is set to benefit all public sector employees.
Dr Clarke reassures that there is a consultative process on the way, therefore persons must not arrive at a conclusion with misinformation. He went further, stating that the government’s complex and ambitious restructuring of public sector compensation, will make no public sector employee worse off.
However, with the proposal set to cover thousands of public sector employees, Finance Minister Dr Clarke says there could be cases where propose changes lead to less net pay. He however reassures that in this case, the government would find a fix.
Meanwhile, Dr Clarke says the compensation restructuring is set to be concluded.
Recently three public sector bodies took industrial action, calling for wage negotiations, among other things: the National Water Commission (NWC), Air Traffic Controllers, and National Housing Trust (NHT). Watch the full report:
