The annual Hayes Back to School Treat unfolded as a joyful and supportive day for the local children and guardians. This cherished event not only delivered a day of excitement but also alleviated some of the back-to-school burdens faced by parents.
Organizer of Hayes Back-To-School Treat, Garth Marriott, says the journey began with the noble goal of providing five school bags for children in need. Over time, this vision burgeoned, and in 2022 saw the involvement of generous sponsors including Tools Hardware and Supplies.
The prevailing economic challenges have cast a shadow, leading to a reduction in supplies by half this year. Amidst the celebrations, Marriott delivered a poignant message, particularly targeting fathers who may be shirking their responsibilities based on strained relationships with the mothers of their children. He emphasized the importance of fathers maintaining a connection with their offspring, urging women to facilitate a strong bond between fathers and children, regardless of limited financial support. The Treat, which coincided with Emancipation Day, saw 64 vibrant and exuberant children revelling in the festivities. As laughter and joy filled the air, the event created lasting memories for these young participants. Alongside the children’s exuberance, adults also seized the opportunity to share their own stories, fostering a sense of community unity and support.
The Hayes Back to School Treat stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives, nurturing the spirit of togetherness while addressing pressing challenges. In the face of economic uncertainty, the event’s impact resonates far beyond its festive atmosphere, showcasing the potential of collective effort in making a positive difference in the lives of Clarendon’s residents.
