Health Ministry to Recruit Overseas Nurses

The government is seeking to recruit overseas nurses to ease the burden of over 6000 surgical cases in limbo for over 3 years. Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton says it’s important that the problem is addressed, despite concerns by the opposition.

Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton says the sector is challenged with a backlog of cases, which has pushed the government to recruit nurses from overseas.

He notes this move aims to provide assistance to the vulnerable who have been waiting for years to get help. The minister has received recurring backlash for his approach to recruiting specialist nurses with operating theatre expertise to serve in the sector, however, he deems it necessary.

Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesman on Health and Wellness, Dr Morais Guy says the government should first seek help from local nurses. He adds the working conditions in some facilities are unfavorable.
