Henley Morgan: Be Careful What You SOPE

There is a word of caution from one Social Entrepreneur to the Government on its continued use of the States of Public Emergency (SOPE) as a crime fighting tool.

‘Be careful, that you don’t reap what you sow’ or in this case the Social Entrepreneur warns the country could reap the SOPEs… Drawing an inference between fighting crime with the special measures and eliminating rodents with the same chemicals over an extended period.

Dr Morgan says much like the United States Post, the terrorist attack of 911 allowed legislation for a Department of Homeland Security. He believes that this approach would do well if the Jamaican Government think along these lines.

Without toeing political lines, He says one must accept that crime in Jamaica especially murders, is beyond ordinary policing.
