HIV Spike – A significant increase in HIV cases in younger persons has Jumoke Patrick of JN+ pointing to a lack of public education as part of the problem. A recent study shows though case numbers are up, instances of discrimination are down; The revelation comes as Jamaica observes World Aids Day.
Concern looms as there is an increase in cases of HIV among people between the ages 15 and 24. Executive director of the Jamaican network of Seropositives (JN+), Jumoke Patrick, says that while overall numbers for HIV are down transmission among young people are high
He was at the unveiling of a mural in Downtown Kingston on Wednesday to observe world aids day. He says there is much work to be done for HIV policy and legislature. He further notes that there is difficulty in ensuring those living with HIV are accessing treatment.
