Exploring and expanding unique areas of agriculture is the goal of Jamaica’s Premiere Agricultural College. The College of Agriculture Science and Education (CASE) is collaborating with bee farmers to expand the industry as well as facilitate by- products of bee keeping, starting with honey production.
The Bee Farmers Association of Portland is working with CASE to expand bee farming and honey production in the parishes of Portland, St Mary and St Thomas. The initiative is funded partly by the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica. The Foundation’s Program Officer Charmaine Webber explains how this may revolutionize agriculture locally.
Meanwhile CASE’s Research and Outreach Coordinator Markland Murphy says the school’s state-of-the-art facility will turn bee farming into a viable commercial enterprise.
The college has plans to expand its research into specialized areas of agriculture such as mushrooms, and parrot fish preservation as CASE President Derrick Deslandes explains in the report below:
