The Ian Fleming International Airport in Boscobel, St. Mary welcomed United States-based QCAS Aero Aairlines’ inaugural flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Wednesday.
The tourism ministry says the aviation management company will operate an Embraer 145 executive-type, 30-seat jet aircraft on the route and will fly into the airport once per week on Thursdays, with plans to move to scheduled flights as of December. Senior Communications Strategist in the Tourism Ministry Delano Seiveright says luxury liner QCAS will undoubtedly add value to Jamaica’s tourism product, offering visitors more ways to experience the island.
Additionally, he says this is a clear signal of faith in the Ian Fleming International Airport and its location in St. Mary. On-board the QCAS Aero, every seat has more legroom than typical first-class seating.
It also offers premium flying experience for members-only that includes valet parking, a private departure process, gourmet meals (including Jamaican cuisine and top-shelf beverages), in-flight service, concierge assistance, and expedited arrival processing. The airport also welcomed an Inter-Caribbean Airways flight from Turks and Caicos on June 16. These flights are expected to happen once per month, with a view to / of transitioning to once weekly. This comes ahead of November’s planned commencement of flights from American Airlines into the airport.
