One businessman is blowing the whistle on illegal rafting in White River, St Ann. River rafting pioneer Bobby Marsh says his business has been infiltrated by illegal raftsmen drying up his profits. He also raised concern for the safety practices employed by these raftsmen adding that some cannot swim.
For 37 years Mr.Marsh has been operating Calypso Rafting in St Ann. Over the past 12 years, unregulated rafters have been impeding his business and He has written to countless tourism and political authorities urging them to regulate the rafting industry but laments no action has been taken. Marsh, a regulated business operator believes it unfair that anyone can freely profit off the business he has worked so hard to maintain.
If something is not done Marsh fears he will be forced to close his business. Calypso Rafting offers life vests and lifeguards to ensure patrons’ safety. With river rafting an unregulated industry, he believes it will put both raftsmen and tourists at risk.
