Following the Independent Commission of Investigations’ (INDECOM) Quarterly Report, a segment of the police force is incensed by the damning allegations and claims made against the members in particular cops dubbed frequent killers, The cops issued a challenge to the independent investigating body while insisting context is crucial otherwise the findings appear bias.
The raging debate between the police and INDECOM following the publication of INDECOM’s third quarterly report has picked up momentum with counterclaims and allegations again being made by highly placed sources in the Constabulary. The suggestion is that the Independent Commission’s approach to tabulating the fatalities linked to over a dozen policemen have been padded with incidents to include domestic matters and off-duty engagements. In fact, sources note that even the most notorious of wanted men, some of whom claimed several lives before themselves being killed in confrontation, have been listed as victims of the police. Among them in more recent times, the murder of social media influencer Donna Lee Donaldson who was believed to be killed by her boyfriend, a policeman.
Meanwhile, the sources who featured from various ranks and departments in the Constabulary, say there is rarely any shooting that the report seeks to highlight as justified especially among 14 cops, considered killer cops with a total of 129 fatal shootings among them since 2016. These would include for example the shooting death of Damion Hamilton, who that same day in June 2020 shot and killed three policemen, Superintendent of Police, Leon Clunis, Constable Decardo Hylton, and Corporal Dane Biggs. The sources also reason therefore that the recent viral video of a man who reportedly threatened a family with a gun and was also wanted for murder in St Elizabeth would be recorded as a fatal shooting. He was indeed fatally shot during a tussle with the police while he attempted to disarm the lawmen who went to detain him.
Only recently, the Police Commissioner, Antony Anderson questioned the validity of the report and says he remains in full support of his officers.
