The increased presence of police in and around the Corporate Area is apparently not deterring criminals from pouncing on unsuspecting victims. However, the Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force says it remains resilient in ensuring a safer environment for citizens.
Recently, it was reported that a woman was robbed at the Tropical Plaza in Kingston. She was near her motor vehicle when men rode up, held her at knifepoint and took her back. Based on reports, the men had followed her from a bank where she had withdrawn a sum of money.
Citizens, however, claim that they were unaware of the incident as these incidents happen quite frequently. Many business owners believe that planned policing is necessary to curb and control crime. They say the police should be strategically placed at areas more prone to criminal activities.
Since October of this year, police officers have been out in their numbers across several parishes. Notably, in the corporate area, they have been seen conducting random searches. Head of the Corporate Communications Unit, Senior Superintendent of Police, Stephanie Lindsay says the police have been deployed to maintain safety and security. She, however, is cautioning citizens to be more careful when carrying out transactions. According to her, criminals have become more organised and have found ways to go undetected by their victims. She believes citizens must take heed.
