COVID-19 cases at hospitals in the western region continue on a downward trend, easing the pressure on health staff and gradually pushing the environment back to normal. That is according to the Clinical Coordinator for the Western Regional Health Authority. Only single digit cases have been confirmed in the four western parishes recently.
Clinical Coordinator for the Western Regional Health Authority, Dr. Delroy Fray, updated that a continued decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the western region has eased months of immense pressure; boosting staff morale.
On Monday, November 14, Westmoreland, Trelawny and St. James each recorded 2 cases of the virus while Hanover did not record a case; these from a total of 645 tests done. For the past week, the parishes have been recording single digits.
But Dr. Fray is warning citizens against the dangers of complacency and the importance of the covid-19 vaccines. Dr. Fray confidently states that roughly 99 percent of persons hospitalized with COVID-19 are unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, he says with the western staff managing much better, they are trying to focus more on non-COVID-19 patients such as those who require screening for various types of cancer.
