The Independent Commission of Investigations, (INDECOM) has commenced investigations into the fatal shooting of Christopher “Dog Paw” Linton. Reports from INDECOM are that police officers intercepted a vehicle along Golding Avenue, on Monday, October 11, while allegedly in search of a gray vehicle with armed men.
The vehicle had two occupants, a female driver, and a male passenger; it was reported that the occupants were directed to exit the vehicle when the male allegedly came out pointing a firearm at the police officers.
The law enforcement officers fired in the direction of the man; the man received gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead at the University Hospital of the West Indies, (UHWI). A colt .45 pistol with serial number was reported as recovered from the incident scene.
INDECOM’s Commissioner, Hugh Faulkner provided input, INDECOM says the female driver was not injured or hospitalized as a result of the incident. The woman was however detained and remains in police custody. The officers involved in the incident, have been issued Section 21 notices to submit written statements and to attend INDECOM to be interviewed regaring the shooting death of Dog Paw.
Linton was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm in 2013. He was freed in April of this year after his conviction was overturned in the court of appeal. Up to his last breath, he denied the allegations.
