Jamaica Awaits W.H.O Approval for Cuban Vaccine

Cuba has been synonymous with outstanding health care, for many Jamaicans for years. The continued fight against COVID-19, has seen many citizens recommending that the Government acquire vaccines produced by its Caribbean neighbour.

Cuba recently announced its homegrown Abdala COVID-19 vaccine which requires three doses for full inoculation, proved 92.28 per cent efficacy against the virus; the result of last stage clinical trials.

They have also reported 62% efficacy rate from another three-dose homegrown vaccine, Soberana 2.

Cuba is the first Latin American and Caribbean country to produce a COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccines are two of five candidates developed in the Caribbean country and are expected to be granted emergency authority by local regulators soon.

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says it’s very likely Jamaica will acquire vaccines from Cuba once they gain W.H.O approval.
