The National Arena was abuzz with a substantial turnout of supporters during the 80th Annual Conference of the Jamaica Labour Party today, Sunday, November 26. The festivities kicked off with a spirited praise and worship session, followed by a warm Conference welcome delivered by Desmond McKenzie, Member of Parliament and Deputy Leader Area One Councillor.
As the Conference unfolded, additional Members of Parliament and Party Supporters streamed into the National Arena, immersing themselves in the music, dance, and vibrant atmosphere. Anticipation ran high as attendees eagerly awaited significant announcements on the agenda.
One such announcement came from Jamaica’s Finance Minister, Dr Nigel Clarke who reminded the country of the impending decrease in Jamaica Urban Transit Company JUTC fares. Also during his presentation, the Member of Parliament for St. Andrew North Western announced that the government plans to increase the duty-free threshold on personal imports from US$50 to US$100 in the upcoming fiscal year starting April 2024. Meanwhile, travelers arriving on the island via airports will see their allowance raised from US$500 to US$1,000.
Meanwhile, JLP Leader and Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the Local Government Election will be held in 2024.
