Jamaica is seemingly on track with phase one of the vaccination target for COVID-19 following the preliminary figures of the latest mass vaccination programme at the National Arena on Saturday. Over 190 thousand people have received the vaccine so far ahead of the targeted 147 thousand for June 2021. Of that number, about three thousand of them have been fully vaccinated.
According to the national COVID-19 vaccine deployment and vaccination interim plan, 5% of the population should receive the vaccine by the end of June which is about 147-thousand people.
The Health Ministry says about 8% of the population has received the vaccine following the staging of the blitz at the National Arena on Saturday.
The event which was mainly targeted at Jamaicans who would’ve been due for their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine also catered to citizens 50 years and older, as well as specific government employees.
But for nationals like Miguel Walcott who was able to squeeze himself to the front of the line when the gov’t opened the vaccination sites to walk-ins.
