Jamaica Teachers Association Favors 4% Salary Increase

Teachers will soon see a minor wage increase, following Monday’s vote by delegates in the Jamaica Teachers Association to accept the government’s wage offer.

Earlier today, our news team sought reactions from one education stakeholder who says the increase is more of a setback than an upgrade. JTA representative at the Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools and Principal of Belmont Academy rayon Simpson says the supposed wage increase offered by the government is not much progress.

He notes 95% of unions within the education sector have already signed off on the offer and there was little that could have been done. However when asked what would be a suitable percentage, Mr. Simpson had this to say. Mr. Simpson noted that gadgets are very basic tools for teachers relative to the traditional tools required for face to face learning. He further adds that an overall assessment is being done of public sector salaries.
