The delegates of the Jamaica Teacher’s Association, JTA rejected the wage offer from the government at a special virtual delegates’ conference held on Friday, January 14, 2022.
A total of four hundred and thirteen delegate voted, 244 rejected the offer, 163 accepted the offer and and six were absent.
The JTA had previously rejected the government’s offer of a four per cent salary increase.
This time around the government did not disclose its offer, or the benefits attached to the offer.
Speaking with our news team JTA president, Winston Smith says more was expected given the harsh realities faced by teachers daily due to the pandemic.
