Jamaican-American performer, singer, and activist Harry Belafonte has died. Harry is known as the King of Calypso. Reports are that he had heart failure while at his New York home.
The King of Calypso is of Jamaican roots; he spent his early years in Jamaica and increased the popularity of Caribbean music with global audiences through popular songs. He released the best well-known version of calypso music called “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)”. Belafonte reprised the song for a new generation in an appearance in 1978 on The Muppet Show.
