Jamaican Students from Ukraine Yet to Apply to UWI

Following the recent exodus of over 20 Jamaican students from Ukraine, there have been talks of the U.W.I Mona Campus making preparations to accept some of those students who are now seeking to secure another university to finish their studies. 

However, the Campus Registrar Donovan Stanberry tells CVM LIVE none of the students has since applied. Sharing that the university is making exceptions for the students by opening registration earlier than is customary. He says if they should apply now, they will be considered, although registration opens in August.

He says given the nature of the situation; it is the least they can do. However, that leniency cannot be transferred to the over 5000-US dollar tuition for medicine, which is the most common degree being pursued by the students. 

One student’s mother tells CVM LIVE the university is simply too expensive.
