Scores of Jamaicans hoping to get their COVID-19 jab at the St. Joseph’s hospital in Kingston, on Thursday, August 12, were left disappointed, this after it was alleged that the vaccines at the facility ran out, and in some cases referred people to a vaccination site in Pembroke Hall, St. Andrew.
Some persons who turned for their COVID-19 jab say they made their vax appointments online, some being set for as early as 9 am up to 2 pm. But for many who left without having taken the vaccine on August 12, it was simply impossible to get to another site after waiting for hours.
Meanwhile, sources in the South East Health Region say, it was unfortunate as there is no vaccine shortage locally. It is however understood that while there has been no vaccine shortage, there is been a deficit in staffing at the location.
Just days ago it is understood a man brandished and fired several rounds at the hospital after turning up for vaccination, since then some staff has expressed fear and concern.
In the meantime, the Medical Officer of Health for the Kingston and St. Andrew Health Department, Dr. Suzanne Strachan says she’s unaware of the situation at the hospital. She also committed to making some checks and advising as to the situation that resulted in the disappointment on August 12.
