The official launch of the Jamaica 60th Diamond Jubilee got underway last evening. The event saw attendance from Government members and various entertainers.
This year’s independence celebration is under the theme “reigniting a nation for greatness”. Keynote speaker, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, says Jamaica has come a far way since independence in 1962. This while acknowledging the contribution of the nation’s forefathers.
Mr. Holness says they have kept the country on the course which resulted in making many strides. He was speaking at the launch of the country’s 60th Diamond Jubilee. Sports, culture, and religion were also highlighted as other areas of impact.
He notes while tourism has been a thriving sector, an area that’s not seen much privilege is liberal democracy. He says the economy has been strengthening over the years. The theme for Jamaica 60 is “Reigniting a Nation for Greatness”. The Prime Minister says it’s imperative for all Jamaicans to aspire towards further growth and development.
