Jamaica’s Economy Has Not Done Poorly Amid COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a dent in the economy affecting employment, education among other crucial sectors. The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce says the country has been making progress despite the pandemic.

Speaking with CVM Live chairman of the Economic Committee at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Keith Collister says Jamaica has done poorly regarding the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Collister highlights the progress in the economy when compared to 2020. He adds that the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has projected an 8 percent increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the fiscal year, while tourism is in a better position.

However, on the flip side, he points out the lows in the economy such as the waves of the virus and lockdowns. He stresses with the omicron variant now on the island, protocols should be adhered to in order to control the spread.
