The British and Canadian High Commissioners visited Downtown Kingston Tuesday to see first-hand the Jamaica social intervention community railway project in west Kingston, through a guided tour of the facilities at the Kingston train terminus.
Also on the tour, was Minister of Transport and Mining Audley Shaw. He says the current plan is to have a train route from Downtown to Three Miles in Kingston. He says the goal is to revive Jamaica’s railway system. A push that began before his time in the role.
He says the bridge in Spanish Town that requires repair will cost the government at least 8-million US dollars. The minister says rebuilding the railway system is significant to Jamaica’s history.
Meanwhile, the Head of the School of Engineering at the University of Technology, Oneil Josephs says they are partnering with the initiative, to provide the necessary training.
