In a Recent Interview, Ministry of Education Explores Trinidad and Tobago’s Military Model for Student Discipline – Dr. Kasan Troupe, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education, discussed the potential implementation of Trinidad and Tobago’s military approach to tackle discipline issues among students in Jamaica. This approach involves sending expelled students to a military institution, a measure being considered after a series of altercations in certain schools.
However, not everyone agrees with this proposed solution. Linvert Wright, President of the Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools, opposes the idea, suggesting that there are alternative measures to explore before resorting to such an extreme method. Wright’s stance reflects a reluctance within certain educational circles to readily embrace the introduction of the military model in handling disciplinary challenges.
